I picked this 3A Kodak Pocket Camera from around 1913. I used a little photshop to feel the age. It is a completely functional camera. I hope to find more cameras and continue the collection.

White Stallion Dude Ranch, Tucson, AZ
Dad and I drove out to the White Station Dude Ranch with the Green Valley Photo Club, about 75 people in all. It was trying to rain off and on, but held out for the most part 'til later on.

Mount Wrightson, Madera Canyon, Arizona
Here is a post from the Arizona Sierra Club about Mount Wrightson. All the pictures I took on the hike. It has been a couple weeks ago. I need to get caught up on the posts and do better about writing them.

This is a popular hike to one of the most scenic mountain peaks around Tucson. The trail is in good condition the whole way up, the views are great, and you will always meet interesting people on the trail and at the summit. Everyone should do this hike at least once. The hike is not very long in terms of horizontal distance, but there is quite a bit of elevation gain. The effort is worth it, however, once you get to the top and have a 360 degree view of all of southern Arizona, and into Mexico. In the monsoon season be sure to start out early since you don't want to be on the summit after noon if there is any chance of thunderstorms. The summit is very exposed and lightning is a real risk up there. There is snow on the upper parts of the trail quite early in the fall and late in the spring. If you go in early spring or late fall be prepared to tromp through lots of snow. There is an alternate route to the top from Madera Canyon using the Super Trail, but it is quite a bit longer than the Old Baldy Trail route I describe. Don't take the Super Trail thinking it will be easier because it is less steep. The extra horizontal miles will wipe out any advantage you get from the gradual grade, and you can always cope with steepness by just going slow and steady. This is about the best "A" hike to do by yourself in the Tucson area since the high traffic guarantees that you will be found promptly if you get hurt on the trail.
Boys Scouts passed away on Mt. Wrightson in 1958 |
Boy Scout Memorial dedicated and maintained for three boy scouts who died in a storm on Mt. Wrightson November 15, 1958. According to the sign, the plaque was erected by Boy Scout Troop 249 in remembrance of David Greenberg (age 12), Mike Early (age 16), and Michael J. Lanoue (age 13). At times there are paraphernalia on or near the sign.

Pearce, Gleeson and Tombstone, Arizona
Here are some of the pictures from the trip dad and I took to some ghost Towns. First we stopped at Pearce. They had a nice festival going with lots of crafts, some live music, horse riding and much more.

After Pearce we drove down to Gleeson. There are still ruins of an old school and some some other buildings including a jail from 1910 with several items and pictures. It is privately owned and very nice.

As we left Gleeson we started looking for some caches. We found one right up the road, then another called 3 flat tires. The folks that made that one had 3 flat tires and had to wait on AAA and hid a cache while waiting. We found a couple more as we headed to Tomstone. It was the holiday weekend so the streets in Tomstone were full.
