No kidding, it is really leaning as you can see in the picture. It is the leaning Tower of Groom. It was designed purposely with 2 legs buried and 2 legs above ground as a gimmick to attract people on Route 66 to get off the Highway.
Of course there is a lot to see while driving, but I cant show you everything. You need to drive whatever part you can. I was thinking you could pick a section and fly, rent a Mustang and drive a few days and see the things you want. Later do more until you get the chance to see it all.
So I finally made it to Amarillo. You can't go through Amarillo and not see the Santa Fe Railroad building, 1930. It use to be the tallest building between Ft. Worth and Denver.
You definitely have to stop at the Cadillac Ranch. It is not right on the Route, but really close. Keep your eyes open and you won't miss it. There is a long story, but the basic is an Ant Farm Millionaire bought 10 vintage Cadillacs and buried then nose down at the same angle as the Great Pryamids. You can research more details. So back to the trip. You come up on the Cadillacs and park on the side of the road, go thru a gate and walk a 100 yards give or take and feel free to bring spray paint and leave your mark for the rest of the Route 66 travelers to see.
Finally I came to the Route 66 mid point. 1139 miles. Being Route 66, guess what?, Yep there is a cafe and sign for midway. There is an old truck there too that people sign and put stickers on so yep, I put the Rubicon cw Adventure decal on it leaving my mark on history.
That sums up Texas. Tomorrow I will get started on the drive through New Mexico.
