The first major stop I made was at the Tower of Conoco Station built in 1936 and U Drop INN. It has been restored and looks incredible. It is located in Shamrock, texas. In the 1960s it became the Shamrock Greyhound Bus Stop. I passed it during the day, but the neon lights look great if you get to see it at night.
I took a McCarty Street a county Road off Route 66 out to some fields and found the Alien Internment Camp. It was a German prisoner of war camp in 1942 and operated until 1945. It housed about 3000 German prisoners.
Today this marker is left as a memory and tells a brief history.
Here are a couple more Texas markers of Route 66.

Some of the stops you come up to Route 66 alignment. Some of the alignment routes take you off road so don't worry you probably aren't loss, even though I did get lost a couple times.

One of those times I wasn't so sure of. I was following Route 66 and comes to a dirt road so I continued on. I know some of the aligments from the earlier Route 66 aren't paved. So I continued on and came up on some cows fenced in and began to wonder where I was. They all walked over to the fence and were mooing at me. So I continued a little further and saw a watering hole. I decided I probably should head back and that I might be on private property. Now my phone app for Route 66 showed a marker still ahead, but I still decided to turn around. As I turned around some cows about the size of my Jeep where in the same field I was in and coming towards me. So stepping on the gas and headed back to the road. Ofcourse the entire time I am on the phone with my dad and he can't stop laughing.
I will write some more later. I am headed over to hang out with dad some. I hope everyone will continue to read and enjoy the pictures. Have a great day.
